Jan 20 2017

The video for ‘Aeroplane’ has just premiered at The Music. You can watch it here. It was directed by Yanni Kronenberg and filmed by Yanni Kronenberg & Josh Heath. I reckon it’s pretty special.

I am very pleased to be part of the amazing line up of authors at this this year’s Perth Writers Festival. See you in February, Western Australia. (And then again in March for music shows.)

What an honour that Goodwood has been shortlisted for an Indie Book Award in the Debut Fiction category, as voted by Australian Independent Booksellers. And in such fine company! The full list of nominees is here. Winners are announced on March 20th.

The second single from my new record is called ‘Aeroplane’ and it has just premiered here at Music Feeds. The song was recorded & mixed by Tim Kevin and he played some guitar on it. Mick Turner also played some guitar. Bree van Reyk played the drums; Joseph Leonard played the bass; and Marcus Whale played the saxophone. I hope you like it.

You can now pre-order the whole album, After a Time, here. It comes out Feb 17 via Spunk Records.

goodwood on the lists

Dec 14 2016

It is a great honour for me that Goodwood has been longlisted for an Indie Book Award (in the Debut Fiction category). The Indies are voted by Australian Independent Booksellers, and they sure do know a lot about books.

Goodwood has also been showing up on bunch of ‘Best Books of the Year’ lists. It came in at #7 on ABC’s The Book Club’s top ten (as voted by viewers). It features in the staff picks from Kill Your Darlings, the staff picks from Melbourne Writers Festival, the Bookseller’s forum picks on ABC 702, and is #3 on the Dymocks’ list of Best Books of 2016 (as voted by Dymocks staff). And now you well may be think to yourself: what a great Christmas gift idea.

Dec 08 2016

I am very happy to announce news of my new album, a national tour, and a new video for ‘What Do You Say?’. The album is called After a Time and it comes out on February 17 via Spunk Records. I was joined in the studio by a dream band, including long-time collaborator Bree van Reyk (Paul Kelly, Seeker Lover Keeper) on drums, Mick Turner (Dirty Three) on guitar, and Marcus Whale (Collarbones, BV) on saxophone. Joseph Leonard (who played on On Night) played bass, and Jens Birchall (who many will know from my live shows) played cello. The album was recorded, mixed and and co-produced by Tim Kevin (La Huva, Youth Group) at his Tempe River Studios in Sydney.

To celebrate its release, I will be doing an Australian tour in March, with a new band. Dates and ticketing information are here. This is my first album and headline tour in six years. Tickets are on sale TODAY.

Also today, a gorgeous video for the single ‘What Do You Say?’ (feat. Mark Kozelek) has just premiered at Yen Magazine. It was directed by Stephanie Day, filmed by Jack Saltmiras, and stars the dreamy Gabby Dillon and Stefan Rusbourne. I hope you enjoy it.

some lovely reviews

Nov 19 2016

A gorgeous review of Goodwood appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald today. It describes it as a “complete revelation”, which is really something, and notes its “wry affection for a peculiarly Australian dagginess”. Haha, yes. If you’re interested, you can read a bunch more Goodwood reviews here.

Some nice words were said about ‘What Do You Say?’ (feat. Mark Kozelek), too. Stereogum called it “shadowy…tender…understated…beautiful”. And Double J described it as “beautiful, uplifting and raw as hell”. That’s very nice. You can buy the song now on iTunes, or stream or your preferred service. More music news coming soon.
